Tandospirone, a 5-HT1A partial agonist is effective in treating anorexia nervosa: a case series

چکیده
This case report details the therapeutic effects of tandospirone on two patients with anorexia nervosa, one with the restricting subtype (ANR), and another with the binge-eating/purging subtype (ANBP). A 22-year-old female patient with ANR and a 23-year-old female patient with ANBP were treated successfully with the 5-HT1A partial agonist tandospirone. After treatment, not only did both patients gain weight, they also showed improved scores on the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire. In addition, a 6-month follow-up showed maintenance of these effects. In this disorder, tandospirone may be an effective drug for long-term use with good patient compliance.

Tandospirone, a 5-HT1A partial agonist, ameliorates aberrant lactate production in the prefrontal cortex of rats exposed to blockade of N-methy-D-aspartate receptors; Toward the therapeutics of cognitive impairment of schizophrenia
RATIONALE Augmentation therapy with serotonin-1A (5-HT1A) receptor partial agonists has been suggested to improve cognitive impairment in patients with schizophrenia. Decreased activity of prefrontal cortex may provide a basis for cognitive deficits of the disease. Lactate plays a significant role in the supply of energy to the brain, and glutamatergic neurotransmission contributes to lactate p...

INTRODUCTION A large-scale clinical trial, the Sequence Trial Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) study, concluded that about one-third of the studied patients with major depressive disorder remitted during the initial treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and that approximately half of the remitted subjects relapsed over a 1-year follow-up. The development of new thera...
متن کاملRole of tandospirone, a 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist, in the treatment of central nervous system disorders and the underlying mechanisms
5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) is an important neurotransmitter in the modulation of the cognitive, behavioral and psychological functions in animals and humans. Among the fourteen subtypes of 5-HT receptor, 5-HT1A receptor has been extensively studied. Tandospirone, an azapirone derivative with strong and selective agonist effect on 5-HT1A receptor, has been used for the treatment of an...
متن کاملEffect of buspirone, a serotonin1A partial agonist, on cognitive function in schizophrenia: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
In previous studies, we demonstrated that tandospirone, a serotonin-5-HT1A partial agonist, added to ongoing treatment with small to moderate doses of typical antipsychotic drugs, improved executive function and verbal learning and memory. However, tandospirone is not available in most countries, and atypical antipsychotic drugs (AAPDs) have largely replaced typical antipsychotic drugs as the p...

Behavioral effects of p.o. administration of SUN 8399, a selective 5-HT1A agonist, on the operant behavior under a MULT VI 1.5 min/FR 5-punishment schedule of food reinforcement and on the ambulatory activity were evaluated in mice, and the characteristics were compared with those of other 5-HT1A agonists, buspirone and tandospirone, and the benzodiazepine diazepam. Diazepam (3 and 10 mg/kg) si...
